Tracey Stills, an 16 year Breast Cancer Survivor who believes that NO ONE should have to face cancer alone!! When I was diagnosed (2002) I found myself being "alone" with the diagnoses of breast cancer and no one reaching out to help. My treatment consisted of a parital mastectomy, lumpectomy, removal of 11 lymph nodes with one being positive for cancer, 8 rounds of chemotherapy (4 Adriamycin-Cytoxin, 4 Taxol) and 52 rounds of Herceptin, which was a clinical trail at the time, but has been since regulated by the federal government. I asked myself "am I really alone." Instead of swallowing in major pity, I decided to become the advocate I needed.
Being diagnosed with breast cancer was not a death sentence for me but became a way for me to spread my wings and help many others get through the diagnoses of cancer. With no history of breast cancer in my family, many times I found myself being my own advocate, although I had a great team of doctors and nurses following my treatment, I didn't have a personal friend or relative who knew exactly how I felt while going through my cancer treatment.
Wings of a Survivor is focused on getting through treatment into survivorship while providing high-quality and useful information. My mission is that NO WOMAN OR FAMILY MEMBER should ever be "in doubt" of what to do, where to go, or how to get what they need.
